Special Education Needs

It is our aim that all children reach their full potential and have the opportunity to experience the whole curriculum. We recognise that for whatever reason children may, at some time during their school life, require additional resources in order to achieve this.

Initially teachers are responsible for identifying pupils’ with additional learning needs. Parents will be consulted if children’s progress gives cause for concern. We will then work with the parents to give the support that the child needs to make progress. Where it becomes appropriate we will seek advice and support from County Advisory Staff.

We have ramped access to the hall through a fire door which is suitable for wheel-chair users.  We also have a disabled toilet and ramps to the main entrance and Caterpillar and Dragonfly classes.  Our Disability Scheme is available on request.

Mrs McGarr is our SEND co-ordinator and works closely with class teachers and parents where there is a need for additional support to enable a child to follow the National Curriculum.  Mrs Mecrow has also achieved the National Award for SEND Co-ordination.  We also have a named governor responsible for SEN who liaises closely with Mrs Mecrow.
